Milo vs. Salty Peaks

If you have been to these board shops whats your opinion. They are located right by each other, and the atmospheres are pretty different. Salty Peaks carries Burton and Milo does not. Personally Im all about tech nine so Milo is where I go, but my buddy is a burton kid so he loves salty peaks. Its funny to see his view on Milo and the crew there just becasue they dont carry burton. The reason they dont is because they are so close to salty peaks that each store has certain brands that one store can carry and the other can't. Im not trying to hate on Salty Peaks I just feel like Milo has more of a local feel and I dont feel pressured to buy things the moment I walk in the door.

Spring boarding

I am a big fan of spring boarding. I think that there is a for sure a different vibe up on the mountain. You can just have a tee on or a hoodie. Sometimes the snow gets too slushly, but overall I think people enjoy it. It kind of sucks knowing that the season is coming to an end, but I think those people who had a good season are satisfied. The snowboarding culture is still there when the season ends. I know a lot of boarders skate in the summer. Personallly skating isint my thing, but i have a lot of friends who do, and I don't mind hanging out at the parks. I think the skateboarding world and the snowboarding world are pretty similar, and a lot of people do both.

Atmosphere

I have not been to any resorts outside of Utah, and i cant say that i have been to all the resorts in Utah. This year I got my pass to Brighton, and have not regretted it at all. Last year I had a pass to the bird which was cool. Its interesting how different the atmosphere is at Brighton compared to snowbird. Snowbird has a lot of hotels, more mountain, and that seems to bring a lot more tourists. Brighton seems to attract a lot more locals. Nightboarding is awesome, and there are a lot more tree runs as a pose to snowbird. Its hard to compare the two resorts because they are so different. I bet this is how it is for a lot of other resorts.

Music

I have noticed that a lot of people on the slopes have headphones in. I personally have my skull candys in and I think having the right music helps you get in your groove. I have boarded a lot of times without headphones and obviously you can still snowboard fine. Theres nothing like a fresh powder bluebird day with your i pod. What is everyones music preferance when they go snowboarding (skiing) ?

Snowboard Graphics

What do you guys think of snowboarding graphics? I feel that there are some pretty cool ones available out there. I think it definatly depends on the board company. I like how technine has alot of graffiti styles avaliable. Burton has some pretty cool designs, but I dont think they are as artistic.

I know that both companies make more than these two particualr boards, but You kind kind of get a sense of the inteded riders.

Anyone watch the X games?

I know that it was a couple weeks ago, but the X games this year were pretty awesome. Some of the tricks were pretty crazy. Of course Sean White dropped some pretty crazy tricks. my favorite thing was the superpipe which sean white ended up winning. Definitely cool to watch, but i like the riders who are in it for the sport not necassarily the money. Mark Frank, Dylan thompson, and Travis Kennedy are probably some of my favorite riders that are with Technine. they have a lot more of a underground riding style.

types of riders

I have noticed that there are the type of boarders who are really into riding park, and then there are the riders who are all about riding the mountain. Both are fun, but you can definatly tell who the park rats are. The snow boarding company Tech nine is definatly more about park. ( Park is boxes, rails, kickers, halfpipe etc. basically things people can do tricks on) A lot of the riders you see riding park are decked out in tech nine gear.
Then you have riders who like going in the back country, doing tree runs, finding there own jumps. I'm not saying that you can't do both, but ususally you wont see the kids all decked out in tech nine gear doing tree runs. I personally have a tech nine board, but im not all about doing park.

Its interesting that the way people choose there gear is really almost an expression of the type of riding that they enjoy.

A look into the underground side of snowboarding

I want to explore how there all the different subcultures that are associated with snowboarding. I want to see show how this is much more than a hobby to some people, and adress things like the graphics on snowboards, gear people wear, and overall style that is associated with each thing.
